Whether you’re a permanent employee or a temporary worker, company culture is essential for a wide array of different reasons. Workers who don’t like their organization’s culture are 24% more likely to quit than those that do. Similarly, about 86% of potential workers say that they wouldn’t even consider applying to a company with a bad reputation.
Individuals who are invested in their company’s culture are actually more engaged with their jobs. That’s why company culture is so important, even for temporary jobs. If you’re devoting several hours a day to work, you may as well enjoy the people around you.
Look for work that supports your values
You should be able to work at a place with similar values, work ethics and goals. When job searching, find a company culture that vibes with your conscience. The leadership team as well as your potential colleagues all have a hand in shaping the environment you work in.
Even if you’re talking about a short-term, your mental health and feelings will always matter. You never want to devote so much of your effort to something that you’re not proud of. You don’t have to be passionate about everything the job entails, but you should believe that what you’re doing matters. Find a job where your achievements are celebrated and your mistakes are forgiven.
Make sure you’re investing in your future
You should also be treating every job as an opportunity to expand your network. To do this, you want to ensure your network is expanding in the right direction. You should seek places that open more doors for you. But, more importantly, a company that opens the doors you’re actually interested in walking through. It might not be worth your time to invest in a company that doesn’t align with any of your future goals or plans. Similarly, you shouldn’t want to waste your time at a place that isn’t pleasant to work at.
In the end, a company’s culture impacts a whole lot more than just their bottom line. If a company takes the time to share their values and cultivate a workplace that inspires growth, their teams will benefit. When you’re job searching, avoid anywhere that perpetuates a negative company culture. You have the power to make decisions that best fit your values and your career. Do it surrounded by people who inspire you to grow.
