A flexible work schedule is an alternative to the traditional 9 to 5, 40-hour work week. To meet the demand of workers looking for flex work hours, it is important for employers to adapt to keep their workforce healthy and happy for companies. When it comes to flexible work, employers are also in the realm of victors. Not only do flexible schedules provide more work-life balance to employees, flexible schedules create a progressive culture that is valuable to employers. Integrating a flexible workforce enables businesses to more efficiently scale up and down their workforce based on demand.
Efficiency Increases: Offering a flexible workforce grants employees more control over how they separate their time, and demonstrates that employers have confidence in their employee’s self-sufficiency. The time spent away from the office allows employees time to catch up on things that really matter to them, such as spending time with their family or taking a cat nap. According to the 2010 Review of Scientific Literature , 10 studies related to flexible work, found that people with the ability to determine their own schedules had better mental health, healthier blood pressure and practiced better sleep habits than those on fixed or enforced schedules. In a large-scale study provided by NCBI, researchers found that flexibility was a vital factor in job satisfaction and personal happiness.
Cost-Effective: Whether it is saving money from happier and healthier employees, or from the reduction of turn over and training costs, employers will find extreme costs savings though flexible policies. Studies show that a large chunk of workers would take a 10 percent pay cut or forgo health benefits for flexible work options.
