That’s according to a new report from Upwork and Freelancers Union, which finds freelancing income exceeds the gross domestic product of some major countries, at nearly $1 trillion–an amount that’s almost 5% of the United States’ GDP.
Findings from The Global Gig Economy include market estimates for the 18 countries that represent approximately 90% of global temporary agency work spend and per type of contingent worker. Total global gig economy spending hit an estimated $4.5 trillion in 2018.
